It is now known as The 2009 Flu Pandemic. Some even said that 2 Form 3 Lasallians were infected by H1N1.. maybe their friends are trying to pull their legs.. or maybe it's true. I don't know.. Assunta Primary yes.. But no one officially said anything about our boys getting it.

Well, here is a little something I found on Swine Flu

Swine Flu

What is Swine Influenza?
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. Swine flu viruses cause high levels of illness and low death rates in pigs. Swine influenza viruses may circulate among swine throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter months similar to outbreaks in humans. The classical swine flu virus (an influenza type A H1N1 virus) was first isolated from a pig in 1930.

How many swine flu viruses are there?
Like all influenza viruses, swine flu viruses change constantly. Pigs can be infected by avian influenza and human influenza viruses as well as swine influenza viruses. When influenza viruses from different species infect pigs, the viruses can reassort (i.e. swap genes) and new viruses that are a mix of swine, human and/or avian influenza viruses can emerge. Over the years, different variations of swine flu viruses have emerged. At this time, there are four main influenza type A virus subtypes that have been isolated in pigs: H1N1, H1N2, H3N2, and H3N1. However, most of the recently isolated influenza viruses from pigs have been H1N1 viruses.

Swine Flu in Humans

Can humans catch swine flu?
Swine flu viruses do not normally infect humans. However, sporadic human infections with swine flu have occurred. Most commonly, these cases occur in persons with direct exposure to pigs (e.g. children near pigs at a fair or workers in the swine industry). In addition, there have been documented cases of one person spreading swine flu to others. For example, an outbreak of apparent swine flu infection in pigs in Wisconsin in 1988 resulted in multiple human infections, and, although no community outbreak resulted, there was antibody evidence of virus transmission from the patient to health care workers who had close contact with the patient.

How common is swine flu infection in humans?
In the past, CDC received reports of approximately one human swine influenza virus infection every one to two years in the U.S., but from December 2005 through February 2009, 12 cases of human infection with swine influenza have been reported. For information on the number of probable and confirmed cases of novel H1N1 flu in humans see Novel H1N1 Flu Situation Update.

What are the symptoms of swine flu in humans?
The symptoms of swine flu in people are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Can people catch swine flu from eating pork?
No. Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. You can not get swine influenza from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160°F kills the swine flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.

How does swine flu spread?
Influenza viruses can be directly transmitted from pigs to people and from people to pigs. Human infection with flu viruses from pigs are most likely to occur when people are in close proximity to infected pigs, such as in pig barns and livestock exhibits housing pigs at fairs. Human-to-human transmission of swine flu can also occur. This is thought to occur in the same way as seasonal flu occurs in people, which is mainly person-to-person transmission through coughing or sneezing of people infected with the influenza virus. People may become infected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose.

What do we know about human-to-human spread of swine flu?
In September 1988, a previously healthy 32-year-old pregnant woman was hospitalized for pneumonia and died 8 days later. A swine H1N1 flu virus was detected. Four days before getting sick, the patient visited a county fair swine exhibition where there was widespread influenza-like illness among the swine.

In follow-up studies, 76% of swine exhibitors tested had antibody evidence of swine flu infection but no serious illnesses were detected among this group. Additional studies suggest that one to three health care personnel who had contact with the patient developed mild influenza-like illnesses with antibody evidence of swine flu infection.

How can human infections with swine influenza be diagnosed?
To diagnose swine influenza A infection, a respiratory specimen would generally need to be collected within the first 4 to 5 days of illness (when an infected person is most likely to be shedding virus). However, some persons, especially children, may shed virus for 7 days or longer. Identification as a swine flu influenza A virus requires sending the specimen to CDC for laboratory testing.

What medications are available to treat swine flu infections in humans?
There are four different antiviral drugs that are licensed for use in the US for the treatment of influenza: amantadine, rimantadine, oseltamivir and zanamivir. While most swine influenza viruses have been susceptible to all four drugs, the most recent H1N1 influenza viruses isolated from humans are resistant to amantadine and rimantadine.

What other examples of swine flu outbreaks are there?
Probably the most well known is an outbreak of swine flu among soldiers in Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1976. The virus caused disease with x-ray evidence of pneumonia in at least 4 soldiers and 1 death; all of these patients had previously been healthy. The virus was transmitted to close contacts in a basic training environment, with limited transmission outside the basic training group. The virus is thought to have circulated for a month and disappeared. The source of the virus, the exact time of its introduction into Fort Dix, and factors limiting its spread and duration are unknown. The Fort Dix outbreak may have been caused by introduction of an animal virus into a stressed human population in close contact in crowded facilities during the winter. The swine influenza A virus collected from a Fort Dix soldier was named A/New Jersey/76 (Hsw1N1).

lasallepjhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02299848206603700689noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792022671319297626.post-9923323389953313642009-03-14T19:24:00.002+08:002009-03-14T19:37:42.718+08:00Golden JubileeLA SALLE Petaling Jaya will be celebrating it's golden jubilee throughout this year, culminating in a grand dinner on Dec 19, LSPJ is keen to contact old boys to help celebrate this and other events and support La Salle in it's mission to educate and build bridges between Malaysian young men and women. Bro. Lawrence in Cheras.
The founder was taking his afternoon nap and so I waited awhile. Managed to get an audience with him later on. I then presented Bro Lawrence with certain gifts before he told me the story of La Salle PJ and the days when he was in Changi Prison during WW2.

In his room, was a new tv set. He received it one day and told me that he would like to thank the chaps who presented it to him. However, Bro. Lawrence only had their names (Michael Leong, Peter Leong and David Leong) So I suggested that he wrote a note and I'd try my best to see it through.

Below is the "Thank you" note written by Rev. They somewhat despised you for you had only joined us in form4. Here in La Salle PJ, we believe in having the best man for the job. And most certainly, you're the one!
Although being sidelined, you now have not much of a choice but to accept the humble position as the so called "Second in command" Not because you don't deserve the No.1 post but we have to be realistic. We're in Malaysia my friend.

Be that as it may, the Form One students had began to experience the life of being a Lasallian and, a handful of them will inevitably be selected into probation as a prefect. Previously, the prefects were once known as ''White Dogs" then later known as "Pulen's Puppets". Well at least a dog barks.. but a puppet is nothing more than a dummy.. don't you think so?
It's like wadafuck??

Bottom line, Take in prefects with minds of their own. We should be all-rounders; having the gung-ho ones, the smart ones and the smart-alec ones too. But in line with our agenda of course!

Before this turns into a scripture, here I wish you the best in administering the Prefect Body because all these are beyond my power.. I'm merely a blogger.

May I wish you a great leadership.
Yours Sincerely,
Lasallepjdudelasallepjhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02299848206603700689noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792022671319297626.post-23030138603156137722009-01-16T19:24:00.006+08:002009-01-17T02:14:35.693+08:00Politics and SexMalaysian Politics.

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
I'd rather compare thee to sex.

Malaysian politics are somewhat like sex...

One side says : I'm so good at this, that's why you keep coming back to me.
I keep you satisfied...have been for the pass 50 years!!

The other side says : I'm cumming, I'm cumming !!! from September 16 to
End of the year.. I'm cumming!!
Now we know that they are slow squirters..or were those just fake orgasms?

One thing I'm very very certain in politics; You gotta watch your back. your own back!!!lasallepjhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02299848206603700689noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792022671319297626.post-15566018905619680442009-01-10T20:07:00.006+08:002009-01-11T00:50:30.819+08:00Charge Of The LightheadedHalf a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
"Forward, the Light Brigade!
"Charge for the guns!" he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

My dearest Lasallian brothers and sisters, as we know, there are those including a renown visionary calling for the boycott of American products, and urging Malaysians working in American companies to resign.

We as Lasallians may empathize with the innocent people being massacred in Palestine. Bro. Lawrence Spitzig the founder of our school. He'd tell me how it all started.. How he'd raised funds for the school.
We had a lucky draw.. the prize was a Ford Prefect.. sponsored by the car company.
The tickets...I quote him say "and they sold like hot cakes"
Those days, the Brothers carry canes and whips. Nowadays, discipline teachers carry cigarettes.... very tempting... must be the carrot and the stick thing eh?

50 years later..We are facing many obstacles including disciplinary and financial.. and yet, many of us seem to be in the comfort zone still. But you cant say we didn't do anything... too many having the common civil servant mentality with only futile gestures.

Golden Jubilee

We will be celebrating our Golden Jubilee this Saturday 10th January 2009 in school.
I hope our old boys and girls will be there to support. Kindly pass the word around.

Cheers.
lasallepjhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02299848206603700689noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792022671319297626.post-82120326885590475282009-01-03T02:03:00.003+08:002009-01-03T03:02:03.606+08:00"That you may never sully her name"Back to school again,
Gonna play the fool again,
Then like many Lasallians;
Results will be beneath contempt.
padan muka!! lolz

2009 is gonna be filled with excitement for La Salla PJ !!
It's almost like when the clock strikes 3 in the morning..
It isn't really a dilemma but a predicament rather. Lilly !!
She was kicked upstairs to La Salle Klang for over a year and 2009, she's coming here.
When I first heard of this, I felt aghast like any other lasallian would.
It's gonna be all out self-indulgence for us in La Salle PJ 2009 ey?
Not to be pessimistic but it could turn out to be academic annihilation.

Pn. Lilly is a very nice person who can always spare time for us if and when we seek her advice or anything of that sort. She is a dear lady indeed and there's absolutely no question about her PR skills.
But other things I dare not guarantee.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.lasallepjhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02299848206603700689noreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2792022671319297626.post-50652835068373173562008-12-04T18:39:00.007+08:002008-12-06T22:34:33.838+08:00Lasallian BlueprintLasallian Blueprint
2-5pm 6th Dec 2008

When the guests started to arrive after scurrying general workers arranged the tables as Mr. Pubalan set up the public address system in lecture hall.
