Tribute To Our Late Founder Brother Datuk Lawrence Spitzig



1918-2009
The founder of SMK La Salle Petaling Jaya has left us on 18th August 2009. Born in Toronto, Canada and left his hometown in the year of 1937 to become a missionary and teacher.
Bro. Lawrence dedicated his entire life to education and youth. From St. Joseph's Institute, Singapore 1938 to St. John's Institution in 1941, Bro Lawrence served as Brother Director of St. John's from 1954-1960 and 1978-1983 ; St. Xavier's Institution Penang (1960-1967) then to La Salle PJ (1967-1974)

Since retirement from active duties, he spent most of his traveling to Sabah and involved himself in the Education Project at Kampung Songsogon. He resided at the Brothers' Community at St. John's until he relocated to the home of The Little Sisters of the Poor in Cheras, K.L. as a matter of convenience.

In February, 2004 Bro. Lawrence was a made a Member of the Order of Canada, the country's highest honour for life time achievement. And later was awarded the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW) which carries the title "Datuk" by the Yand di-Pertuan Agong. Also the
"Jasamu Dikenang" award during this year's Teacher's Day celebrations.

I am an old La Sallian From La Salle Brickfields from 1955 to 1961. From 1962 to 1967 At La Salle PJ. I was a pioneer student in PJ 1962. Thanks Bro Lawrence for shaping my life. God bless you.
